One to One Mentoring

Big Brothers Mentoring

The Big Brothers mentoring program provides boys and young men with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced match co-ordinators. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

The Big Brothers mentoring program usually requires one get together a week for a a few hours each (flexibility is available)  and a minimum of a one year commitment.

Big Sisters mentoring

The Big Sisters mentoring program provides girls and young women with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

The Big Sisters mentoring program usually requires one regular scheduled outing a week (flexibility is available) of several hours each and a minimum of a one year commitment.

In-School Mentoring

The In-School mentoring program provides youth with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up within school grounds. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just hang out on school grounds.

The In-School mentoring program requires a weekly visit of one hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.

AFTER SCHOOL MENTORING

The After mentoring program provides youth with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up within the Big Brothers Big Sisters office. For 4-5pm Tuesdays or Wednesdays, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts, gym play or just hanging out.

The After School mentoring program requires a weekly visit of one hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.

Group Programs

GO GIRLS! HEALTHY BODIES! HEALTHY MINDS!

Go Girls! Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds!

Is a small group program for girls 12-14 years of age.

Through interactive activities they explore:

Keeping active for a life time
Balanced eating
Healthy Minds!  Includes:  decision making skills, body- image, communication, problem solving and more.

Typically program runs for 7 weeks.  If at a school during lunch may go for 12.

FUSE – BIG POSSIBILITIES

Is a post-secondary education and career readiness program for students 14-22 years of age.  Wednesday or Thursday evenings 7-8:30 pm at Big Brothers Big Sisters in Portage la Prairie.

Usually goes from January – March

The program is designed to assist students in planning for life after high school with lessons on planning, job/career search, scholarships, financial literacy and so much more.

BIG PLAY

Big Play is a 7-8 week program where older teens or adults come alongside and play a sport for 1 hour a week.

At this time we are doing Big Play hockey.  The Portage Terriers are playing hockey with some of the children in our program.
